The October 2007 Conference was held at the lovely Laurel Point Inn
in Victoria, British Columbia. The conference theme was "Cruising Through
Higher Education: Facilitating Student Transition from Prospect to
Alumnus". In other words, how can we facilitate students' advancement
through every stage of their post-secondary educational experience and
even beyond? Click on the link for more information.

Our keynote speaker was Raymond P. Perry, who has been professor
of psychology at the University of Manitoba since receiving his Ph.D.
from the University of Calgary (1971). He co-directs the Emotion,
Motivation, and Control Research (EMCOR) Laboratory, which is part of a
research consortium partnered with laboratories at UCLA, the University
of California at Irvine, and the University of Munich. His research
focuses generally on how individuals cope with adverse conditions and
how certain environments thwart adaptation, and specifically on college
students' attrition rates, prejudice and discrimination, managing
critical illness, and successful aging. It has been supported by
national granting agencies in Canada, the United States, Germany, and
Mexico, and has resulted in more than 130 publications and over 300
presentations.
Perry serves on several editorial boards including Research in
Higher Education, published by AIR. He has been recognized for
distinguished contributions to research in higher education by
organizations in Canada, the United States, and Germany, such as the
Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education, the American
Psychological Association, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, and
the Max Planck Foundation. He has co-edited several books on student
development and on faculty careers, including The Scholarship of
Teaching and Learning: An Evidence Based Perspective with John Smart
(2007; Springer) and Faculty in New Jobs with Robert J. Menges (1999;
Jossey-Bass) Most recently, he organized a highly successful conference
on the scholarship of teaching and learning and higher education,
featuring experts from elite universities around the world (Stanford,
Oxford, Munich, Hebrew University), attended by an international
audience from North America and overseas."
Executive committee and local arrangement committee members Maureen
Pettitt, Ron Smith, Karen Grigoleit, Michael Bennett, Harry Yang and
